Fluorisis
Fluorisis is a condition that is common to young children during tooth development. The presence from too much fluoride in the child manifests itself, by attacking the enamel of the tooth, resulting in the appearance of white streaks or spots which are noticeably whiter than the rest of the tooth. This condition is most commonly seen in children between 1 and 4 years of age.
Fluorisis is an important issue to be concerned with because it weakens the natural development of the child’s teeth and thus, it should not be ignored. The causes may be linked not only to toothpaste, but to the home’s natural tap water which may have an excess concentration of fluoride in the system. Nutrition can also play a key role. If left untreated, severe cases for fluorisis can result in a dark brown mottled appearance from enamel degradation manifesting through extreme staining of the teeth.
