A dental examination involves more than looking inside the mouth for cavities and cleaning your teeth. A dental exam can also uncover the early onset of more serious health problems, so that they can be addressed before things become worse.

Dr. Jennifer Bartlett has been advising and counseling her patients on good oral health practices for years. When someone comes to her as a new patient, Dr. Bartlett typically begins with an initial consultation in which the patient’s present state of oral health and relevant background dental history are reviewed and discussed.

Following this, Dr. Bartlett may recommend a series of X-rays be taken to identify any potential problems that may be affecting the patient, or which may likely have an impact upon the patient’s dental health in the near future. In addition to this, a thorough visual examination is performed. At this stage, Dr. Bartlett will carefully check to see if there are early signs of oral cancers, or even health related issues such as diabetes, imminent stroke or respiratory problems. The results are then discussed with the patient and a proper course of action is adopted.

Depending upon the results of the X Ray and visual inspections, Dr. Bartlett or one of her staff, may also clean the patient’s teeth, which can manifest in an immediate and noticeable improvement in the overall oral health of the patient, by removing plaque and tartar buildup from places that regular tooth brushing and flossing cannot adequately address.

Finally, a personalized treatment plan is drafted and given to the patient, and follow up appointments may be scheduled, depending upon the findings from the examination.
